Catholic Heritage Curricula
Catholic Heritage Curricula
Just ordered some stuff to go along with the Little Saints curriculum...we are well on our way now...school begins the second week of August! Both kids will be starting Pre-K even though they both know their letters and their sounds, numbers to 20, shapes, colors and so on. I figure that it's better to start at a level that they can do well at and gain some confidence and then we can just fast forward a bit if we need to.

Little House
Come home to Little House
I don't know where I've been, but I'm only now getting to read the 'Little House' books, after enjoying the tv series for so long. I was thrilled to find the above site...very cool.

Spelling 'Ursprache'
FOXNews.com - Spelling 'Ursprache' Wins National Spelling Bee - Celebrity Gossip | Entertainment News | Arts And Entertainment: "Katharine Close, an eighth-grader at the H.W. Mountz School in Spring Lake, N.J., is the first girl since 1999 to win the national spelling title."
I enjoyed watching this, I especially got a kick out of watching the different interviews. One of the parents was saying how they knew they had something special on their hands when their young child started spelling words like EXIT and STOP! LOL...ok...are these always kids first spelling words? Maybe it's because they see them the most...on signs everywhere? It's just kind of funny because those were Sarah's first spelling words too...along with her name ofcourse.
TV
News from Agape Press: "'Here we have the nation's largest child health organization telling us two years ago that kids under two shouldn't be watching television at all,' Maier laments, 'and yet this huge number of children are doing just that.' But although he thinks allowing the TV to 'baby-sit' while adults do other things is an immature and selfish trend, he emphasizes that he does not believe most parents are uncaring, only uninformed."
Or maybe just trying to survive and doing the best they can. Although I definitely wouldn't allow my child to sit there and watch adult tv (ok...I watched American Idol with Sarah all season and last night we watched the Spelling Bee...but in those cases it is the commercials we need to watch out for). But there are some really good tv shows and videos for youngesters out there...no, it shouldn't take away from parenting time...but it can certainly supplement it without harm. I'm sick of everyone else thinking that they know what is best for our kids. If your child is very sensitive and would do best without any tv...then by all means shut it off.
